This Jade bangle was purchased in Hawaii by Leah’s beloved husband Al, as an Anniversary gift celebrating their enduring love. While Leah and I were working together in the Labor & Delivery ward, bringing new life into the world, one night during an emergency surgical procedure, she quickly placed the bangle on her scrubs. In a moment of haste, it loosened and fell. Jade is a remarkable stone—dense and hard—so rather than shattering, it made a clean break into two pieces (pictured left).
She held on to this heartfelt piece for over 20 years, knowing one day she would wear it again as a reminder of their special bond.
In our initial 2D jewelry sketch, we considered repurposing diamonds from one of Leah’s tennis bracelets. Instead, she chose diamonds from a pair of beloved earrings she no longer wore as often.
The beautifully graduated diamond sizes added a touch of sparkle and meaningful symmetry to this piece.
When Leah and I spoke about restoring this bangle, I began envisioning her remarkable presence—her natural calm and confident poise, especially during emergencies, and her deeply nurturing energy. The image of a Ginkgo leaf came to mind: a beautiful symbol of enduring longevity and resilience that perfectly captured her spirit.
The true magic of jewelry lies not in the sparkle of diamonds alone, but in the extraordinary stories it holds and the timeless moments it celebrates.
This stunning redesign carries a streamlined silhouette with the timeless, classic elegance of Art Deco, featuring four carefully cast 14K yellow gold caps that gently embrace the ends.
A thoughtfully designed safety clasp and delicate chain were integrated into the piece, restoring both lasting functionality and the joy of wearing this beloved bangle.
A meaningful touch—an abbreviation of both their names into one word, ‘LEAL’—was engraved on the inside of the bracelet, a sentimental testament to their enduring love.
